Positive Parenting

Classes are geared toward parents of two different age groups:

The Positive Parenting Program ® (Triple P) is a parenting and family support system designed to prevent, as well as treat, behavioral and emotional problems in children and teenagers. It is an eight-week program that aims to prevent problems in the family, school and community before they arise and to create family environments that encourage children to realize their potential. This program draws on social learning, cognitive behavioral and developmental theory as well as research into risk factors associated with the development of social and behavioral problems in children. It aims to equip parents with the skills and confidence they need to be self-sufficient and to be able to manage family issues without ongoing support. And while it is almost universally successful in improving behavioral problems, more than half of Triple P’s 17 parenting strategies focus on developing positive relationships, attitudes and conduct.

  1. Children from prenatal through 12-years-old
  2. Tweens and Teens

Here is what is covered during each week:

WEEKS 1-4:
Two-hour group sessions of up to 12 parents actively participating in a range of exercises, goal setting, strategizing and planning to promote child/teen development, manage misbehavior, plan for high-risk situations and learning how to teach emotional self-regulation.

WEEKS 5-8:
Four 15-30 minute phone consultations to assist parents with independent problem solving while they are practicing skills at home. They will review their progress, discuss family survival tips and learn ways to maintain positive changes.

Check our events calendar on our home page to see when the next class will begin.
