Members of Habersham Rotary Club heeded the Family Resource Center’s call for tools to keep visiting children safe. When Habersham Rotary President, David Foster reached out to our agency to share their member’s project idea they stepped up to go above their original playground concept and chose to also include financial support for car seats and an additional security camera.

In the past year the Family Resource Center has provided over 1,026 supervised visitations for children in foster care or relative care. Our specialized program empowers biological parents as they work with their individual Parent Coach to redefine their family’s future through parent education, family-wellness goal setting, and mentoring. As the demand for this program by the Juvenile Court grew throughout the Mountain Judicial Circuit additional visitation rooms were needed to increase the agency’s capacity. In addition, over this past year the center has provided over 500 visitations to children involved in the nightmare of child custody disputes. As a safety measure the Family Resource Center’s design for safe access for children and their visiting parent includes camera monitoring. Through Habersham Rotary Club’s financial support our agency will be able to add an additional security camera. In time, with future fundraising and donations, our agency will install additional cameras to cover more areas of the visitation center.

Keeping children safe expanded beyond the walls of the visitation center with Habersham Rotary’s purchase of car seats. Transporting foster children to the center for visitation falls on outside transporters, foster parents, relative caregivers, and DFCS case workers. New to the Family Resource Center this Fall is a fifteen-passenger van that was acquired through a grant from the Victims of Crime Act. “We are blessed to have our community stand behind our efforts to help families rise from adversity. Together we truly can remove barriers for families and guide them in new directions,” says Director Jennifer Stein, “We appreciate the members of Habersham Rotary Club’s financial investment in the safety of the families we serve.”
