Sugar bowls contain sweet stuff and this year’s football version sprinkled year-end abundance on the Family Resource Center of Northeast Georgia. Two downtown Clarkesville business owners, Bill Gresham of Gresham Planning & Development, Inc. and Spencer Carr of The Carr Law Group, issued a New Year’s Day challenge in advance of the 2019 Sugar Bowl – a contest between the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the University of Texas Longhorns. Gresham, a graduate of the University of Georgia and Carr, a graduate of the University of Texas, are both long-time supporters of the Family Resource Center. They were eager to direct their lively smack-fest in a positive way – the loser of the contest pledged to donate five times the point difference to Clarkesville nonprofit agency. As the game ended, the spread was only seven points, but Gresham made good with a larger donation, matched by Carr. “Ultimately, it is the agency that brought home the sugar from New Orleans,” said Jennifer Stein, executive director for the resource center.
